Designed in 2000, Konstantin Grcic offers a lamp that is the height of functionality, but doesn’t skimp on beauty. He created this conical light to go anywhere it is needed—whether displayed prominently or illuminating a utility closet.
Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich, Germany in 1965. He trained as a cabinetmaker at Parnham College in the U.K. and later received a Master's degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London. He established Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in 1991. Through his firm, he has worked on furniture, products, and lighting for some of the leading companies in the design field. Many of his products have received international awards, including a “Compasso d′Oro” in 2001, and are a part of permanent collections in museums such as New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and others worldwide. The Royal Society for the Arts appointed Konstantin “Royal Designer for Industry” and in 2010 Design Miami named him “Designer of the Year.” Konstantin Grcic’s designer lamps defines function in human terms, combining formal rigor with considerable mental acuity and humor. Each of his products is characterized by careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Konstantin is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity and clean lines. Konstantin is based in Munich, Germany.
